Christchurch zero emission truck trial begins

We're proud to be partnering Christchurch City Council and with Fuso New Zealand as the telematics provider in their latest trial of the fully electric Fuso e-Canter trucks – in Christchurch.

The trial involves nine FUSO eCanter trucks across two projects and is part of a Christchurch City Council initiative aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions for the district by 2030.

One project is focusing on civil construction and maintenance services carried out for the council by Citycare Property, Fulton Hogan Ltd, HEB Construction Ltd, Higgins Contractors Ltd, and Isaac Construction Ltd. The other is a shopping district delivery service project involving Bidfood Ltd, Hall’s, PBT Transport Ltd and Toll New Zealand.

Mark Heine, EROAD CEO says “Climate change offers us an opportunity to explore new ways of doing things in the transport sector and it’s encouraging to see businesses and government coming together in this trial to do just that.”

EROAD has installed Ehubo telematics devices in each of the eCanters that are part of the trial to monitor their performance. This is the second trial we’re involved with in New Zealand – the first being the Auckland City Council zero emissions trial that kicked off in November 2021.

“Electric trucks are relatively new, and businesses want to know what it really takes to run these vehicles as part of a commercial fleet. These trials will go a long way towards building that understanding with real world data and insights,” adds Heine.

We look forward to learning more as the trial progresses over the coming months, and sharing the results at the end of the trial.
